The University of Liverpool required an upgrade to their existing Management School Campus, which entailed the refurbishment of the existing Chatham Building and the construction of an additional block named the Grove Building.

Scope

Scope

HE Simm was selected by ULCCO to deliver full MEP design & build services on the scheme.  The project was to contain 2 lecture theatres, new classrooms, IT suites a café and offices for the school staff.  The University’s aim was to deliver a world-class facility for their students and staff.

Delivery

Delivery

The Management school is situated on a fully occupied and in-use university campus, with the attached Chatham Building remaining operational throughout the duration of the project.  This posed some significant challenges that were only overcome by working collaboratively with our customer ULCCO.  Logistically, deliveries and moving plant was extremely difficult, however we found a solution by employing a stringent logistics plan, ensuring the safety of our operatives, delivery drivers, our customers team and the staff and students of the university.

In addition to this, the Chatham building was the home of the plantroom that would service both buildings.  We were tasked with keeping the existing plant fully operational while the new systems were installed, which was challenging, but skilfully achieved by our project team.

Outcome

Outcome

While this was a challenging project, with unique conditions, the outcome was very positive.  HE Simm handed the project over on time and defect free and also further extended our relationship with ULCCO and the University of Liverpool, securing Greenbank Student Village Phase 2.
