Named after the legendary ships that transported tea and gold between Salford Quays and the USA, Clippers Quay is home to the largest, purpose built rental only scheme in England. Sir Robert McAlpine selected us to deliver full design and build MEP services on 614 apartments across 5 self-contained blocks, each with its own carpark.
Developed as part of the wider regeneration of Salford, Clippers Quay is located just a short walk from Manchester United’s Old Trafford stadium.
Our team designed and installed mechanical, electrical and public health services to apartments, a cinema room, private dining room, residents lounge and co-working space.
End user Grainger required occupants to be inhabiting their new home before the end of the construction programme. We implemented a phased handover, prioritising blocks that needed to be ready for use. This allowed us to ensure that by the time the project was complete, 100% of all dwellings were occupied.
HE Simm delivered the scheme though a local labour force, with 70% of its workers from the Greater Manchester area. 10 apprentices were also employed during the life of the project.
Collaborative Planning was crucially important to Sir Robert McAlpine at Clippers Quay. A project with so many moving parts requires all stakeholders to be on the same page. Our project team worked closely with our customer’s opposite number to reduce waste, ensure quality and maintain the safety of all on site. This approach resulted in us handing over the project safely, on time and in budget.
