In 2010, the Mayor of Liverpool launched the Liverpool School Improvement Programme, a scheme to improve 22 schools, benefiting 14,000 pupils in the city. St. Julie’s was HE Simm’s 5th project of the programme and was employed to deliver full MEP Design & Build services to BIM Level 2 standard.

Scope

The brief was to create a spacious, modern school, in the grounds of the existing facility.  The design was to consider not only the needs of today’s curriculum, but also the student needs of the future.  Once completed the school would be host to a large, comfortable dining room, a chapel, theatre, dance studio and gymnasium as well as traditional classrooms, and laboratories

Delivery

BIM 360 glue was used to establish if the installed architecture and structure matched the model while ensuring our MEP installation was viable and followed the designed routes. The existing school was still in operation during part of the project, which led to logistical and health & safety  challenges, however these were mitigated by our project team who executed a tight logistics plan requiring all goods to be received ‘just in time’ and scheduling all deliveries outside of school hours.

The result was a high-profile project, crucial to current and future needs of the local area, being delivered safely, on time, snag free and within budget. Testament to the quality of the delivery of the project, HE Simm was subsequently assigned to Huntingdon School in Chester by Kier Construction.
