We were appointed in 2019 to deliver the Mechanical, Electrical and Public Health (MEP) installation to the scheme, which would be a stunning new development of 105 apartments over 15 storeys.

THE BRIEF

THE BRIEF

Where thriving city meets maritime heritage, Plaza 1821 would boast an enviable location with spectacular views of the world-famous Liverpool waterfront. With contemporary furnishings, dedicated amenity spaces, and a host of other features for residents to enjoy, Plaza 1821 wouldn’t just be a better place to live; it would be a ‘better lifestyle’ for its residents.

OUR SOLUTION

OUR SOLUTION

Working in collaboration with lead contractor Vermont Construction, we successfully installed a full MEP package including heating, ventilation and water systems, lighting and bathroom fittings, fire safety and access control systems, CCTV, security and sprinklers in a ten-month period. A tried and tested team, long standing relationships and collaboration ensured the delivery was successful.

Due to the tight project footprint, we rented an adjacent industrial unit at King Edward Triangle, part of Liverpool Waters’ future neighbourhood B development, that we used as our stores and site office. In addition to this, our project team created a pre-assembly production line in the unit, where they pre-assembled electrical meter boards to aid a more efficient installation. This element saved 75 hours.  Mechanically, the team assembled valve sets for 15 risers offsite, meaning only one connection was required once in situ. This saved around 100 hours on the total project programme.

Our logistics team created 1st and 2nd fix apartment kits, containing all materials needed for electrical installation of an apartment. These were then transported as required, limiting waste on site dramatically and reducing the possibility of materials being damaged or lost.

Jade Smithson, Site Manager for Vermont on Plaza 1821, commented on our approach. “I’ve worked with HE Simm on multiple Vermont sites and the guys at the workface will go above and beyond to ensure deadlines are met and the client is happy.”

Chris Gallagher, Managing Director for Vermont, added: “The challenges increased towards the end of this project with the advent of the Covid-19 but HE Simm worked closely with us and we achieved completion one week after the UK went into lockdown.

“The team delivered a very high-quality project. If this isn’t a perfect example of what we all can do with a common goal and as a team then I don’t know what is!”
