HE Simm Group Successfully Completes MEP Installation at Manchester Waters

The Northern Engineering and Fire & Security divisions of the HE Simm Group have added to the company’s residential portfolio with the completion of ‘Block B’ at X1 Manchester Waters.

The development, built by Vermont, for client X1, brings together 742 apartments across five residential towers.

The company has successfully delivered the first two towers – a total of 216 apartments -and is currently in the design stage on the third tower. The apartments are part of the Pomona Strand Masterplan, located between the successful Manchester residential neighbourhood of Castlefield and the prestigious Salford Quays development at MediaCityUK.

The HE Simm Group provided Design & Build, MEP, and Fire & Security Services. The team became involved from concept, working with a wider design team – including the architect and structural engineers – to ensure a successful outcome. Over 35,500 hours on site were completed without a single lost time accident, whilst the use of offsite manufacture also helped bring benefits in relation to safe working practices and quality.

The project also gave the opportunity for five apprentices to play their part in the delivery, learning and earning whilst doing so.

Greg Simm, Managing Director for the HE Simm Group’s Engineering division in the North, said: “Our business is extremely well known in the residential sector and that’s for a reason.

“We always complete our work to the highest possible standard, and to the quality our customers expect. The successful completion of our work at Manchester Waters is down to the excellence provided by our team, so well done to them.”

James Blackshaw, Vermont’s Project Manager, adds: “‘The HE Simm Group is a key supply chain partner. It works tirelessly to ensure a quality product for ourselves and for our client.

“The company is very proactive and flexible specialist contactor that I cannot speak highly enough of.”

Lee Smith, Operations Manager on the project, concludes: “We have had a long term, successful relationship, with Vermont and X1 for over 10 years.

“This project is one of the last remaining large scale regeneration opportunities located close to the heart of Manchester City Centre, benefiting from extensive waterfront views of the world-renowned Manchester Ship Canal and the fact that the HE Simm Group was involved makes me immensely proud.”
