HE Simm & Son Ltd began life in Liverpool in 1948 when Mr Ernie Simm bought George Hockenhall Plumbing Contractors, immediately changing the name to that of his father.

Always eager to grasp new working opportunities, Ernie began knocking door to door around the city. His first break came when knocking upon the door of the ‘Brothers of Charity’ on Thingwall Lane. He was rewarded with his first contract, providing plumbing and painting works to the Brothers for the next 2 years.

Following this, the company started to grow in stature, carrying out further plumbing and painting works for respected builders across the city. Due to high demand for his services it became apparent that Ernie’s original lockup, in the backstreets of Toxteth, was no longer big enough to satisfy his needs. So in 1955 he purchased a listed semi detached house at 10 Prescot Road, where the company remained for almost half a century.

The company’s major breakthrough came when it was awarded the contract to install plumbing at The Catholic Metropolitan Cathedral of Christ the King Liverpool. Shortly after more success followed, as HE Simm and Son was awarded the plumbing contract at Park Lane Special Hospital (now Ashworth Hospital). This resulted in Ernie being on site for the next ten years, a key foundation in the development of HE Simm excellence in healthcare installation.

In 1965 Ernie’s sons Lawrence, Tony and Graham as well as Graham's wife Jean joined the company, where they remain to this day. Ernie continued to work right up until 2008, when he sadly passed away at the grand old age of 86.

The company has continued to grow year on year, so much so that in 2003 they moved to new offices at Spinnaker House in Liverpool to accommodate their growing team.

And now the 3rd generation are heading up the team with Gareth Simm as Managing Director, Greg as Operations Director and Martyn heading up the Health and Safety division.

Throughout the history of HE Simm one thing has remained constant, the maintenance of exceptional quality standards whilst consistently expanding the services offered.
